abooktion is a book club that discuss literature & readings on abortion. Most of the books are still not updated. Even if so, we can see the increase of discussion on abortion in fictional writings. Through this book club, we shall explore and discuss the relevance of abortion (pro & against) from the excerpt of books, and how those arguments impacted us in Malaysia, especially.
My intention to start this book club for non-activists is to reach more people who are interested to discuss about abortion without having to be involved in the activism field. With minimal or absence of knowledge of abortion, we will learn from each other about how to talk about abortion and tackle the discussion with the people we care about.
The meeting for the book club will be organized every Wednesday at 9 p.m – 11 p.m (GMT+8). which will be executed through anonymous chat platforms, hack.chat. The link to the chat rooms will be emailed 12 hours before the meeting starts, as a reminder to the members.
What to expect in our chats
Our chat rooms are friendly spaces for members to be among other members, to be anonymous as you want to be, and to talk about anything or just be present in the space. When you enter the chat, you’ll be given a prompt to enter a nickname, then be greeted by a facilitator.
Please follow this format for your nickname: nameofyourchoice_pronoun (for example, “anonymousfriend_they”).
Don’t screenshot or save any part of the conversation unless given explicit permission; don’t ask invasive, identifying, or pressuring questions; content warn your messages where possible. Additionally, we have no tolerance of the following, and may ask you to leave the chat if you make oppressive or harmful comments: transphobia, racism, anti-sex work sentiments, fatphobia, ableism, classism, misogyny, abuse or assault apologism, homophobia, biphobia, or anti-LGBTQIA sentiments, victim blaming, or abuse/rs, or other forms of oppression.
